BENEVOLENCE.

It ought to be noticed, to the honour of our brethren in Philadelphia, and to excite the gratitude of the sufferers, by the late fire in this town, that the Treasurer of the Committee of the Distribution, has received 2825 dollars from 38 gentlemen in that city for their relief.

That a subscription for this purpose was set on foot, with spirit, soon after the news of that dreadful calamity reached them; and would probably have amounted to a much larger sum, but it was interrupted by the breaking out of the Insurrection in that State, and was superseded by a subscription for the support of the families of the poor militia-men, in their absence. A tribute of gratitude is, notwithstanding, due for the generous sum received, and for their further benevolent intentions.
