State-Wide Driver
Plan For Students
A Georgia Legislative Committee will recommend today a state-wide driver training program in schools as an answer to the soaring problem of traffic fatalities on the highways.
Rep. Jack Tarpley of Union Co., said today the committee will also recommend mandatory revocation of licenses for drunk driving convictions.
DRUNK-DRIVING
Tarpley, chairman of the house committee on traffic law revisions, said it will be recommended that a driver's license be revoked for six months on a first offense for drunk driving; one year for a second offense: two years for a third offense; and thereafter, permanently.
Among other major proposals to be made by the committee, will be an expansion of the safety education division of the department of public safety: the elimination of obstacles along highways and intersections, and inside small towns allowing protection of right of way; and the specifying of jurisdiction between Judges and the department of Public safety.
Tarpley said there will also be a number of minor recommendations "to take the bugs out of the traffic laws."
