Sacramento, Calif. Mar. 9 (Special to the Jackson Advocate)

Democratic Governor Edmund G. "Pat" Brown honored the publishers of California's Negro newspapers with a luncheon on Friday, March 6th, at Sacramento's Hotel El Mirador.

The Governor's personal invitation to discuss "matters of mutual concern" marked the first time a California Governor had ever met with the Negro press.

Governor Brown stated that he was confident that his FEPC measure would pass the heavily Democratic Legislature and assured the newsmen that this civil rights milestone was just the beginning of his program to guarantee minority groups a fair chance to participate

He further stated that he would order all department heads to made an immediate review of hiring policies to correct alleged discriminatory practices within the state civil service.

Governor Brown was introduced by Cecil F. Poole, extradition and clemency secretary to California's chief executive.
