In the proceedings of the Officers of the 19th Regiment, at the Eagle-Tavern, on the 5th inst. as published in your paper of the 7th, there is an error in the word "relinguished," which might have occurred thro' inadvertency, or misapprehension. It is there stated, that "Captain J. S. Pleasants having relinquished his right of Senior Captain, &c." This sentence does not by any means convey the exact state of the case:—It is true, that Capt. P. did wish to exercise his right as senior Captain, but seeing that the zeal of certain officers upon the occasion might rise to a degree which might be productive of injurious consequences to the public service, and having a sincere wish to preserve unanimity and harmony amongst the officers, he consented to Major Davis to waive his right to command the detachment, as being eldest Captain in the Regiment. But he did not, nor does not, mean to relinquish his just pretensions as the senior Captain of the 19th Virginia Regiment.
J. S. PLEASANTS.
