SWEET HELEN O' DUNBAYNE.

A BALLAD,

Oh, sweeter than the lovely dew,
That glistens on the flower;
Oh, fairer than the fairest hue,
That graces Flora's bower,
Is that dear girl, for whom, alas!
My bosom throbs in vain;
She's a' to me, that honor lass,
Sweet Helen o' Dunbayne.

Oh, brighter than yon twilight star,
That glitters o'er the sea;
Is ae saft glance, to me, by far,
Frae Helen's lovely e'e.
That coral lip, that form sae rare,
That voice's mellow strain,
Hae carried my heart to bleed fu' sair.
For Helen o' Dunbayne.

Oh, freely I'd for aye resign
The proudest earthly power;
Could I but truly ca' her mine.
The beaut'ous mountain tower.
Amang thy purple hills an' muirs
Right gladly I'd remain;
If blest wi' thee, my soul's amore,
Sweet Helen o' Dunbayne.
