TYLER, Texas. (SNS) - Eleven games make up the Texas College 1949 schedule that was announced today by Coach Fred Long, new director of athletics at the local college. Five home games, all top notch Southwest competition, give evidence that attendance records for Steer Stadium will be shattered this fall.

The Steer home schedule features Grambling College, rated third in the national rankings for 1948, in the opener on September 24, at which time the new Steer Stadium will be dedicated, and it is expected that every one of the 7,500 seats in the new stands will be filled to overflowing.

Prairie View will be the Steers guests in the annual homecoming encounter that is listed for November 5, when another capacity crowd should be on hand to see the Steers seek vengeance for the 20-6 pasting the Panthers handed them last November.

Bishop will be here for an Armistice Night encounter that should draw well, while Texas State under the tutelage of former Steer coach E. V. Rettig is bound to bring another sell out. Arkansas State makes up the fifth opponent of the Steer card.

Away from home the locals will meet Langston Lions at Fort Worth in the seventh annual Texhoma Classic on October 15. The herd has been selected to play Morris Brown in the annual Peach Bowl out in Atlanta, Georgia, on December 3. They will travel to Austin twice to meet Sam Huston and Tillotson, will tangle with the national champions Southern in Baton Rouge and Wiley in Marshall.

The complete Texas schedule for 1949 is as follows:

September 24, Grambling at Tyler (Night).

October 1, Sam Huston at Austin.

October 8, Arkansas State at Tyler (Night).

October 15, Langston at Fort Worth (Texhoma Classic).
