Extract of a letter from Brescia in Italy, dated August 30.

The day before yesterday a terrible accident happened here; a flash of lightning fell that day on the tower, where several thousand weight of gun-powder was deposited, which blew it up, with a horrible explosion. Eight palaces and 97 other houses, were entirely destroyed, & above 1800 persons buried under the ruins. About 300 were taken alive out of the rubbish, but all of them more or less wounded; the rest were found crushed to death.
