Owens Protected Shortage

According to the report of the Nye County grand jury Sheriff Owens left sufficient money, stock and property in Tonopah to more than pay up the shortage in his office which has been found to amount to but $2,000. This report sheds a different light on the entire affair from the fact that had the sheriff desired to rob the county he would not have left behind coin of his own to protect the shortage. Friends of the absent man are now using every effort to locate him believing that there is some personal reason for his disappearance and that he had no intention of embezzling the funds of his office.
