Full Text

The Next Legislature.

The Delaware Gazette gives the state of parties in the next Legislature. They are divided as follows:

SENATE.
Democrats ........ 21
Republicans ........................ 8
Democratic majority ............... 13

HOUSE.
Democrats .... 59
Republicans ................. 46
Democratic majority ........... 13

The Gazette states the exact truth when it says,

"The present apportionment was designed to utterly swamp the opposition to the Democracy, by which party it was arranged. Nothing but an overwhelming Republican majority can overcome it—and of its unfair and iniquitous character no stronger proof is necessary than the fact that, with a Republican majority of more than 2000 over the Democracy, in the State they have a majority of 13 in one branch of the Legislature, and 7 in the other."
