"Operation Abolition" is a pictorial account of allegedly Communist-inspired riots which occurred in San Francisco, California, May 12, 13, and 14, 1960. The film has been the subject of a great deal of controversy in the public press as well as among private and public groups and associations. It has been branded by some groups as "a propaganda piece for the House Committee on Un-American Activities," and "a distortion of facts." It has been lauded by others as "a shocking expose of Communist Party manipulation of student groups and unsuspecting dupes."
The Greenbelt American Legion announced it is presenting this film as a public service. "The public is invited to see the film and decide for itself the truth or falsity of allegations which have been made," John T. Hoffma, Commander of the Post, stated.
