Full Text
On Tuesday evening while our fellow
citizens Pat. Fitzgerald and Bill Elliott
were at the track in St. Mary's park exercising
their horses, a friendly dispute arose as to
who owned the fastest nag. As both gentlemen
are great admirers of the horse, and are not
slow to embrace any opportunity that will insure
a little sport, an agreement for a race
was soon made. The contest is to come off
two weeks from last Tuesday, the
thirteenth instant. The stakes are one
hundred dollars, fifty dollars a side, and
the distance a quarter of a mile. Both
horses have already been put in training
for the event. With good weather and
good track, the race is expected to be an
exciting and close one, as the horses are
thought to be pretty evenly matched.
