Full Text

The venerable Timothy Pickering has recently delivered an address to the Essex Agricultural Society, the subjects of which were—" Domestick Animals, or the live stock of farms: Green food comprehending Carrots, the Great Beet or Mangel Wurtzel, the Sweedish Turnip, and Indian Corn plants while abounding in sweet juices ; Ripened Indian Corn, and Wheat ; which he treated in the manner of a scientifick and practical farmer, and greatly to the satisfaction of the members who attended the meeting

There is certainly something interesting in the spectacle of a man who, after having spent a long life in the first offices of the nation, retires in his old age, poor and unambitious, to the cultivation of a little farm, and is now filling up the measure of his usefulness by publickly disseminating the results of his agricultural experience. An old age so employed after life so spent will be honoured by every man who venerates the genuine simplicity of republicanism, and the true dignity of the human character.
