This is Event 1 of 2. The full text below covers all events in this component.

The New York Evening Post, in all disputes between our government and that of Great Britain, for thirty years past, has pretty generally taken side with the British. That paper is now greedily copying from various British papers flattering encomiums on Gen. Jackson; and the "genuine republican" papers in this quarter are as eagerly copying them. The British like the change from Adams to Jackson very much indeed. Quere—Are our interests their governing motive, or their own? England is our great maritime rival, and is no doubt pleased to see us discard our ablest statesmen. She would have us abolish our tariff laws, make Jackson president, have our cabinet filled with Branches and Inghams, and then she would send us a good supply of her woollens and cottons, insultingly pat us on the back, and call us a very wise people.—Kennebec Journal
