Full Text

Rhode Island. The Governor has called a special session of the Legislature, to consider the assault upon the rights of that State made by Congress. State Rights used to be of some consequence among old fashioned democrats; and herein is seen a contrast between Democracy and Locofocracy.

The Legislature has adopted a strong remonstrance against the right of Congress to question the lawfulness of the Constitution of the State, or in any mode to stir up insubordination or insurrection. Resolutions, condemning sundry Dorr ite members of the House for violating their oaths to support the Constitution, were also adopted. Suppose Congress should undertake to override the Constitution of Vermont: would our people suffer it without a struggle?
