Extract of a letter from a gentleman in Pausum (Bohemia) to his friend in Norfolk, dated Jan. 6, 1803.

"This country is in a deplorable state, having had no rain for three months past—all the wells are dried up; the emperor is obliged to have water sent here from the lower parts of the country to keep the people from perishing—a great number of the inhabitants die daily for want of that article. Rye is at the enormous rate of 6 dollars 37 cents per bushel; one potato will sell for a kreutzer (5 farthings) and every thing else in proportion."
