Full Text

A Relic of Old Superstition.

Mr. James Harrison, of this city, who is engaged in getting out barrel staves on the McCreary place, near Pendleton, showed us last week a lock of human hair, which was found in the centre of a large tree. A negro was cutting the tree, when he noticed a small hole with a plug in it, and under the plug the hair was found. The hair had evidently been there nearly one hundred years, as the tree contained ninety-seven circles around the centre. No one seems to know how the hair came there, though it is believed to have been placed there by some superstitious person.
