In Radio Broadcasting
SITKA-After 78 years of educational service to Alaskan residents, Sheldon Jackson Junior College, Sitka, has accomplished another "first," the first junior college in Alaska to present a curriculum in radio broadcasting from its own studio and transmitter facilities.
The head of the radio department, Hendrick Van Dyke, manager of KSEW, announced that as the class expands more and more of KSEW's programs will be handled by college students. Mr. Van Dyke said:
"The course that we are presenting here is a blend of radio
broadcasting theory with the practical laboratory work of actual broadcasting. Each student will become familiar with the business phase of a radio station as well as programming, continuity writing engineering, and broadcasting.
"Vivian Paddock, of Pelican, who came into the class to specialize in the business work of radio, finds herself preparing to go on the air with a daily women's program. Such training. aside from preparing the student to obtain employment in radio work, gives them the broader view of communication in the world today."
