Full Text

The overtures offered by the Court of Versailles, for an exclusive bargain with the Switzers for 30,000 of their troops to be constantly employed in their service, is said to have been rejected by the Cantons. It is further added, that the people of that country, in general, are too jealous of the designs which they have long supposed the French to entertain against their liberties, to admit of such a measure being taken—a consideration which alone must be sufficient to render such a treaty abortive.
