The Western Waters.—The small streams in Montgomery county, Ohio, were so swollen by the late rains as to cause great destruction of property. The Dayton Journal learns that several breaches were made in the Canal near Piqua. At Troy there was much fear that the bridge over the Miami might be carried away, so sudden was the rise.

South of Dayton, the Journal says, there are various reports of damage to the canal. There was a slight breach near Snyder's Mill, and rumors of a heavy one between Miamisburg and Franklin.

Never, within the last thirty years, has there been as sudden a rise in the Miami at this place. The damage on the river and canal is considerable. The new turnpike bridge, at the east end of the town, which had not yet been completed, has been swept away, together with all the timber and lumber necessary to its completion, which was near it. The canal is considerably injured. There is a breach at the north end and another at the south end of the town. We have not seen the one above town, but that below will require a good deal of work to repair it. The embankment next the river is washed out for 25 or 30 yards in length, and below the bottom of the canal.—Cincinnati Gazette. 13th.
