Extract of a letter from a gentleman at the Rapids of the Ohio, to his friend in Philadelphia, dated June 20.

"The Indians are daily committing depredations in this quarter—and have killed several people in their habitations. Indeed we may say that they are actually at open war with us, and that to go in pursuit of them would be as much in vain as to use an old and common saying "to seek for a needle in a bundle of hay".

"Colonel Harmar and Major Hamtramack have just arrived here with three companies of the federal troops from the garrison at Miami; but their destination has not yet transpired."
