Full Text

MISSISSIPPI.—Gov. Ames, of Mississippi, has notified the President of the reported disorders occurring in Yazoo, Hinds, Warren and other counties in that State, and of his inability to suppress the disturbances, and asks the President if the proclamation of last December commanding all disorderly and turbulent persons in Warren county to disperse within five days from the date of the order is still in force, stating that if it is not he will immediately avail himself of his prerogative under the constitution by asking the President for aid. The President referred the question to the Attorney General, who decides that the Executive proclamation of December last is not now in force. Gov. Ames has, therefore, called upon the government for military assistance, and the Washington Republican says the "aid" will undoubtedly be granted.
