Full Text

October 27. It is said, that Mr. President Laurens hath written a very complaisant letter to Governor Johnstone, to say, that through his, the Governor's influence, he expects, since he is here, to have the privilege of coming out among us, and seeing the country, for that there are many in England whose virtues he admires far above Greek or Roman names, whom he should be very glad to tell his children about; but that the Governor hath not yet returned an answer.

Lisbon affairs in the Court of Admiralty, are: McCartney's affairs in the India House, having very lately engrossed the whole of the Governor's attention: and now of late preparations for going out in command to India, or to the Texel, have come upon him with equal pressure; so that it remains quite uncertain when Mr. Laurens may be permitted to see the country.
