Full Text

May 23.

A British frigate appeared in the offing yesterday, with a white flag flying at her foretopmast, and last evening she sent a boat into Rebellion Roads, and put on board the U.S. schr. Carolina, lying at anchor there. Capt. Hubbard, late master of the pilot boat schr. William, of this port, which vessel was captured on Thursday last, in 18 fathoms water, on her passage from Havanna, with a cargo of sugar, coffee, &c. and ordered for the West-Indies. Capt. H. was treated with much politeness while on board the frigate. The commander of which put himself to some inconvenience in order to land Capt. H. and two gentlemen who were passengers in his schooner. Courteous.

The frigate alluded to above from which Capt. Hubbard and his passengers were landed, is the new frigate Aster, of 36 guns, Capt. Cramer. We did not learn that there were any other vessels of war in company with her, but understand she was one of a convoy of a large fleet, from which she separated in order to cruise along this coast to intercept any of the fleet, should any of them be captured by our cruisers.
