Full Text

Extract of a Letter from Warsaw, September 3.

The Troubles of this unfortunate Kingdom seem to have engrossed the Attention of all Europe; and our unhappy, but amiable King, deserves, and I believe has, the Pity of every humane Breast. Ever surrounded with Enemies, he has behaved with the greatest Intrepidity; and though the united Tyranny of Russia, Germany, and Prussia, now oppresses him, I trust he will shortly rise superior, and restore himself to his own Rights. Every honest Pole wishes to free his Country from those foreign Invaders, and even the Confederates will join in the general Cause of Liberty. Can any Man who loves his Country, his King, or himself, bear to see his native Land dismembered, his Sovereign reduced to a private Character, and himself subject to a tyrannous Jurisdiction? No! the Cause will animate us; and I hope to see Poland in a more prosperous State than it has yet ever been.
