Full Text

From the Cherry Valley Gazette, April 22.

A. H. Bennett, a Printer, or as Mr. Riggs of Schenectady would say, a type-setter, is elected clerk of the county of Yates. Mr. Flagg and Mr. Buel, both type-setters by trade, are members of the assembly—Who knows but that the people so long blind to the merits of those who work at our highly useful trade, are about to see that they owe us (we mean the type-setters of the nation) a debt of gratitude which they can never pay short of giving each of us a snug and comfortable office. We have had to write and print men into power, and but for us the good people of this nation would be as ignorant of political matters as the subjects of the emperor of Morocco. "We are capable, we are honest, we are faithful to the constitution." We are generally poor, miserably poor. Most of us have long been public servants, for which we have hardly got our bread scarcely then our claims to the offices which our masters the people have to bestow, are, we should think, irresistible!!
