Full Text

DUBLIN, May 14.

It was on Saturday reported that the following melancholy affair happened a few days ago, near Boyle, in the county of Roscommon. The daughter of an inn-keeper there, having for several months listened to the warm addresses of a wealthy farmer in that neighbourhood, she entertained an uncommon affection for him, though at first she received his professions with reluctance; the story of their mutual attachment going abroad, and the young woman's predilection proving injurious to her reputation, on finding the avowed lover grow cool in his engagements, and despairing of fidelity, she one evening resolved to be finally informed of his purpose, and invited him to tea in the absence of her parents, when peremptorily putting him the question, and receiving an evasive answer, she blew the contents of a loaded pistol through his breast. On the news of the deed going abroad, she avowed herself guilty of the murder, at the same time mentioning her motivation, either by neglect or the appearance of attachment.
