An action has been begun in the Wells justice court against Elmore & McShane, contractors at work on railroad grading between Fenelon and Moors. It appears that a couple of men hired to Messrs. Elmore and McShane. After one had worked eight and the other ten days they quit They applied at headquarters for their money and were referred to the commissary, department where they were offered clothing in exchange for their labor. They were not disposed to accept the exchange and demanded cash for their services. They were told that they could either accept such supplies as were offered or go to the hot place for their pay. The men rebelled at the treatment and came here and began an action to compel the contractors to pay them their just due. Judge Conger issued the papers and Constable Moore served them. The case will come up for hearing on the 24th. It is said to be the practice to force upon the men whatever terms of settlement the contractors desire, and it is about time it is stopped by law. The men tell of the imposition they are subject to and are getting pretty wrathy at the treatment accorded them. It is hoped that the present case will establish a precedent and that Elmore & McShane will be forced to pay complainants the cash due them.-
