The home of Mr. and Mrs. Bert Cannon, 1801 Superior Rd., burned to the ground this noon when an oil stove at the back of the house exploded. No one was injured in the conflagration, but the son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Don Cannon and two small children who lived in the upstairs, lost all their furnishings, and only a few things were saved from the lower quarters.
Neighbors, 20 men who were working in a gravel pit nearby, and Bell Telephone Co. men near the scene, responded quickly to the alarm, but were unable to give much assistance. Because of the strong wind the building burned very quickly.
The home was a large two story frame structure and Mr. and Mrs. Cannon had resided there for over 60 years. The barns did not catch on fire.
The children of Mr. and Mrs. Don Cannon were removed to the home of relatives, Mr. and Mrs. Glen Bird, Geddes Rd.
