ST. JOHN'S (ANTIGUA) JUNE 14

We have authority to state to the public, that part of the squadron under the command of Commodore Hood, have lately stopped two French ships with empty casks, one of them with 332 bound to Martinique from Rochelle, and the other with 100 bound to Tobago: and that on their refusal to answer them themselves the offer which was made them of permission to pursue any other course than their destination, they were detained by the commodore's orders: from which event arises the obvious, necessary caution in all merchants, owners and masters of vessels, and other persons concerned in the navigation among these islands, to be preserved against any hostile conduct which may be pursued by French vessels, under a pretence of visitation.
