New-Orleans, January 12.

EIGHTH OF JANUARY.

This day, among the most glorious in the military annals of our country, was celebrated in this city with the usual demonstrations of joy and pride. Several volunteer companies, viz: the Artillery, Capt. Aubert; the Cavalry, Capt. Vignie; the Riflemen, Capt. Saul; the Louisiana Guards, Capt. Purdon; the Orleans Guards, Capt. Prieur; and several other corps, whose designations we do not precisely recollect, paraded, under Major Buisson, on the public square: at half past 12 o'clock, a procession, comprising the Governor and Suite, the members of the Legislature, the Civil and Military Officers of the State, the Military and Naval Officers of the United States, the members of the Corporation and its officers, together with a number of private citizens, moved from the Government House to the Cathedral Church, where, after a very impressive and affecting discourse, suited to the occasion, delivered by the Right Reverend Bishop Dubourg, a solemn Te Deum was performed. C. Watts, Esq. who had been appointed for the purpose by the committee of arrangements, then rose and in a speech of which the classical beauty of the language and the chaste animation of the delivery were well adapted to its noble sentiments, enchained the attention of the audience for about twenty minutes. At the conclusion of the ceremonies in the church, the artillery fired a salute of 100 guns in the public square. Captain Saul's rifle company also performed in a handsome style, the firing evolutions peculiar to that species of troops. We are happy to add that no accident, no disturbance, no misunderstanding occurred, to mar the harmony and joy which prevailed through all classes.
