On Tuesday morning last, the Engineer, Mr Hayward, employed by the Rail-road Committee in Boston, arrived at this village, on his way to the northwest, for the purpose of exploring a route for a rail-road in that direction. In the afternoon, accompanied by several gentlemen of this place, Mr Hayward viewed the ground between this village and Blackwater river, in the westerly part of Boscawen; and on Wednesday morning, in company with D. L. Child, Esq. of Boston, and Maj. Timothy Chandler of this place, left town, for the purpose of continuing his exploration up the contemplated route.
