LIGHT VOTE WAS CAST
Alaska's Newest Town Holds an Election and Becomes a City-
Seven Good Citizens Chosen For Councilmen and Three School Directors Elected.
Ketchikan is now an incorporated city.
At an election held last Saturday the question of incorporation was voted upon, and carried by a majority of 65 in a total vote of 103. Ketchikan people say that owing to the absence of miners and prospectors, less than half of the known vote was polled.
The following were the successful candidates for councilmen: John W. Stedman, J. R. Heckman, M. E. Martin, M. M. Hopkins, Boyd Young, Harry Inman and Robert Allison.
J. F. Hunt, J. W. Garrett and J. R. Beagle were chosen school directors.
The men chosen to office are all leading citizens of the new city. It had been feared that the hoodlum element would prevail and the substantial citizens are rejoicing over the result.
Ketchikan claims a population exceeding 800.
