Full Text

The Richmond Enquirer lately charged Gen. Harrison with having voted for "the odious bankrupt bill," while Mr. Van Buren voted against it. A gentleman in this place, writing to the Whig, gives the following as the facts of the case—for proof of which he refers to the American Annual Register for 1826-7, page 76, &c. "Gen. Harrison voted for extending the privilege of Bankruptcy to all classes of citizens with their consent—while Mr. Van Buren said "he was in favor of a Bankrupt system, and that all the provisions of the bill met his approbation except the 93d section," which section extended the benefits of the law to others than merchants. Afterwards that section was struck out, and he, Mr. Van Buren, voted for the bill."

We would advise Mr. Ritchie to rub up his specs; such mistakes are quite as "odious" as the "bankrupt bill" would have been with Mr. Van Buren's desired restriction of its benefits to a particular class of citizens!

Richmond Enquirer charged Gen. Harrison with voting for the odious bankrupt bill while Mr. Van Buren voted against it. Correction: Gen. Harrison voted for extending bankruptcy privilege to all classes with consent.
