The military spirit which pervades the state of Ohio, must certainly create the most pleasing sensations in the breast of every friend to his country—The military mania, instead of deterring the exemplary youth from military discipline, animates their souls with the most beguiling charms; their hearts palpitate for the success of their country, and neither the tyranny of a gasconading Briton, or the threatening tomahawk of a savage, can deter them from performing that duty which they feel in gratitude bound to perform to the best of countries—Worthy countrymen! you have a worthy cause! you neither fight for a barren rock of Malta, or to reinstate a dethroned prince—you will have to fight for your imprisoned countrymen, the protection of your lives, families and fortunes—your case is justifiable by all the sacred ties of defence of your country, love for your families, and attachment to your native soil and best of governments. Western Americans you heard your forefathers relate the tragedies of savage barbarity, till the blood trickled through your veins, and your very soul, palpitated with indignation—those were the blood hounds let loose upon us by Great Britain; when neither the shrieks of petulant innocence, or the consuming flame, flashing around an expiring parent, were sufficient to satiate the cruelty of a savage foe.

—Shall we again experience the like? Good heaven, forbid it—and may our red brethren of the west no longer conceive themselves safe under the protection of the British influence; and those who do, will inevitably have reason enough to repent it.
