AUTO TURNS TURTLE THREE TIMES: FIVE PAINFULLY INJURED

As the result of breaking the steering knuckle on their automobile touring car young men and a lady, who refused to give their names but stated that they were from Chicago, narrowly escaped death this afternoon about 1 o'clock when their car three times turned turtle in a ditch at the four corners two miles this side of Serena. Only two of the names could be learned one stated his name was Tilden, while another gave his name as Walter Payne and further stated that he was driving the car at the time of the accident.

The man most seriously injured refused to give his name but informed authorities if anything serious should happen, to call the President of the Federation of Labor at Chicago, this man was his father. No further information could be learned as to what their names were.

Tilden as he called himself was seriously hurt about his shoulder, otherwise he was all right. The man who stated that his father was the President of the Federation of Labor at Chicago was the most seriously injured of all. His leg is very badly gashed and also while a severe gash was inflicted upon the crown of his head.

Just how serious the others in the party were hurt is uncertain, although all were injured to some extent.

The party were driving at a high rate of speed at the time of the accident. Just as they reached the four corners near Serena the steering knuckle broke, allowing the car to run wild. Going into a ditch along side of the road, it turned turtle three different times, alighting upside down with all members of the party pinned underneath the car. Two of them, Payne and another were thrown through the windshield.

Philip Cole, and E. R. Dudgeon, two farmers working in a field, hurried to the scene of the accident and rushed the injured men to Ottawa Ryburn Memorial Hospital where Dr. Fred O. tended them. The extent of their injuries will not be known until an x-ray is used.
