Outrageous.—The Baltimore American says that a young man named William Maul in Jefferson Co., Va., was met a few days since by a person named Smith Crane, who in an angry tone told him he wished to speak with him. Maul replied that he did not know him, and wished no conversation with him; whereupon Crane drew a pistol, knocked Maul down and shot him, the ball passing through his body. He lived but a few moments. The murderer was arrested, but was rescued, while on his way to jail, by a band of desperadoes, who put the officers to flight.
