Lexington, (K.) May 2.

In consequence of the depredations on our frontiers by the Indians, and the perilous situation of the territorial inhabitants on account of the withdrawal of the 4th Regiment from Vincennes, several companies of veteran volunteers, armed and equipped properly for a short campaign, set out last week. They obtained permission from the governor of Kentucky to place themselves between the uplifted tomahawk of the British Savage and the families of their brethren on the frontiers; and were directed to report themselves to the governor of some territory, and to act under his orders. Two or three hundred we are informed are on their march to Vincennes. Amongst them are many of our revolutionary heroes and veterans who distinguished themselves during the late Indian wars.

Can it be expected that those savage butcheries will have an end until we take possession of Malden and other British forts on the Lakes? And must the settlements in our territories be entirely destroyed, and the blood of the women and children drench the soil before this can be done? Those venerable patriots who have voluntarily undertaken the toils and dangers of a campaign in their old age, will say No. What will our Congress say?
