Market Developers To Hold Sixth Annual Clinic And Convention At Detroit, May 15 - 16;
Workshops Scheduled In Marketing Interest Areas

Detroit-The National Association of Market Developers is scheduled to hold its sixth annual marketing clinic and convention at Hotel Gotham, May 15-16. It has been announced by LeRoy Jeffries, NAMD president and Johnson Publishing Company vice president Chicago, III.

On Friday, May 15, workshops will be devoted to the theme, "Market Potentials and Consumer Motivations."

Featured speakers will be Dr. Frank Davis, director of research, Johnson Publishing Company, and Dr. H. Webster Johnson, professor of Marketing, Wayne University, Detroit. H. Naylor Fitzhugh, professor of Marketing, Howard University, and research associate, The Moss H. Kendrix Organization, Washington, D. C., will serve as moderator.

On Saturday, May 16, the workshop will give attention to the topic "Current Public Relations Developments in the Negro Market"

Panelists will include Robert P. Leatherwood of Leatherwood, Cleveland and Logan, Detroit public relations firm; S. Matthew, of Matthew, Caldwell and Ballard, Chicago PR counselors; and a third panelist to be announced. Moderator will be Looneer Pemberton, executive director, Kansas City Urban League, and NAMD secretary.

The afternoon sessions, on Friday and Saturday, will feature discussions of the use of fashion models in Negro market advertising and other promotions. Models from the Carmen Murphy House of Beauty, Detroit, will participate in these discussions.

Friday activities will also include a "Welcome" breakfast, featuring greetings from the Mayor's office, and the annual luncheon, both at the Hotel Gotham. Mr. Jeffries will serve as toastmaster for these events.

Dr. M. S. Garbin, director of Chrysler Corporation's Newark, Delaware, Training Center, will address the luncheon.

Dr. Garbin will discuss "Effective Selling in Today's Competitive Markets."

A graduate of Duquesne University and the University of Pittsburgh, Dr. Garbin was formerly a faculty member at Duquesne and director of the Pittsburgh School of Speech. Prior to the above associations, he was director of Speech and Psychology at the McNamara School of Sales, Pittsburgh

NAMD's Board of Directors will meet on the evening of May 14 at the Hotel Gotham.

The annual business session of the organization will be held on Saturday, May 16. The morning workshops will meet at the Detroit Urban League; the afternoon sessions will be held at the Surf Club, Windsor, Canada.
