IS WORKING OUT
BOSTON, Mass., March 5-Harvard
started its search for baseball talent in
earnest yesterday when a squad of fifty
two men reported for the varsity and
freshman teams under the baseball cage.
Coach Hugh Duffy took them in charge
and they were hustling after a short pre-
liminary talk.
The complete varsity squad numbers
twenty-one just now, and the freshman
candidates total this score. Men of tested
diamond value are few, but Duffy has
high hopes of bringing a well-balanced
team together from the promising mate-
rial that is now under his eye.
The cage can be divided into four com-
partments for batting practice, and when
fielding work is ordered the network of
rope is drawn aside and the entire space
is available. By ordering his men to
report at different hours Duffy is able
to handle the full squad of players, tak-
ing the batters separately from the
fielders.
The varsity men most relied upon to
make up the infield are Gross, Evans,
Wolverton, Ward and Jones. Good out-
fielders are considered service
