ESTIMATES FOR PARK ARE MADE
$10,000 Gateway for Cody Entrance Included in Improvement Plans
Activities of the National Park Service in its estimates for the Cody entrance and work in the National Park to be performed during the fiscal year have assumed definite shape in the last few days in the presentation to congress of a carefully worked out list of estimates prepared by Horace M. Albright during his stay in the Yellowstone Park last summer and approved by Hon. Stephen M. Mather, director of the service.
One important item of the estimate is a request for $10,000 to erect a beautiful gateway structure at the Cody entrance, which will vie in beauty with the celebrated entrance at the north gate and is in keeping with the rustic grandeur and scenic beauty of the surroundings.
The total estimate for the park is $617,300 and most of this money, if granted by congress, will be expended for the maintenance of the roads in the park. Ninety thousand dollars have been asked for spring repairs, sprinkling of 102 miles and repairing culverts, bridges, etc. Much of this money of course is spent on the loop system, but approximately $5,000 to be spent on the road between the eastern boundary and Lake Junction.
For twenty-eight miles in the Shoshone national forest on the Cody road $8,400 will be required, which is approximately $1,000 more than has been received in the past for the maintenance of this road.
Under the head of construction and other new work, $16,000 have been asked to be expended between the eastern entrance and Lake Junction. The sharp turns are to be removed and the road widened between the eleven and thirteen mile posts on Lake Junction for which $8,000 is estimated, while the other $8,000 will be used in graveling several sandy stretches, principally the long, sandy one near Pelican Creek.
