More than 1,800 individuals have been given the anti-typhoid serum in Vance county already this summer during the clinics that have been held in many parts of the county. Dr. C. H. White, health officer, announced today. Early in June Dr. White stated a round of visitations to a dozen or more communities, and made four visits to each, with the result that hundreds of individuals took advantage of the opportunity to immunize themselves against typhoid without cost to them.
The 1,800 reported to have taken the serum had all completed the prescribed three treatments. Dr. White said.
Last week and this week additional points are being visited for the first time, a number of the localities being in or near the city. It was expected that nearly as many more would take the treatment as those who have already received it.
In addition to the visitations over the county, to bring the treatment within easy reach of the people, Dr. White is in his office for a time each day in the forenoons, and will give the serum treatment then to all who call there for it.
The health officer is making no predictions, but is hopeful that this summer will see a larger number taking the complete treatment than the 2,000 to 3,000 individuals who last year took the opportunity to protect themselves against the disease.
