MEETINGS OF HOME AND APARTMENT HOUSE
OWNERS CALLED AT SHAW HIGH SCHOOL TO
DISCUSS IMPORTANT CITY BUSINESS
The Apartment House Owners Association of East
Cleveland, through its chairman, R.
15629
Euclid Avenue, has called a meeting of taxpayers for the
night of Wednesday, September 27, in the auditorium of
Shaw High School. The meeting will be called to order
promptly at 8 o'clock by the chairman, who is also chair-
man of the 10th zone of the National Association of Apart-
ment House Owners.
The purpose of the gathering is for a thoroughgoing
discussion of problems vitally interesting to the owners of
property in the city of East Cleveland, with a view to set-
ting in motion the necessary machinery to effect relief.
L. J. Efferth, who is secretary both of the local and
national body of apartment house owners, is to speak on
what the apartment and home owners, local, state and na-
tional, hope to accomplish for the taxpayer in the reduction
of taxes.
Charles A. Mullenix, 3333 Cedar-
brook Road, who is president of
the national association, is to talk
on regulating the 1934 tax rate
through the present school, and
city budgets; real estate vacancies
in East Cleveland and how to fill
them.
C. E. McGiffin, president of
Cleveland Street Railway, has
been asked to speak on the mat-
ter of car fares in East Cleve-
land. It is thought that a thrash-
ing-out of the matter with public
officials may lead to a plan for
freeing East Cleveland of its bur-
den of excessive car fare.
Other matters of interest to all
residents of the city, which will
come up for discussion and ques-
tion are the findings of State Ex-
aminers; improvement funds and
the purchase by the city through
condemnation proceedings and for
a specific purpose; and the subse-
quent leasing of such property to
individuals without the formality
of competitive bidding; the new
fire zoning ordinance
recently
passed by the Commission and vio-
lated by the city; the Espey bill
on taxation; and the entire situ-
An open forum will follow the
speaking. It is hoped that every
citizen interested in a lower tax
rate for East Cleveland will be
at the meeting.
Commissioners Parks, Colonel,
Morse and McGiffin.
