The Advices from Vienna assure, that in Case an Accommodation is not soon brought about, a Treaty now in Agitation will be irrevocably concluded between the Emperor, the Czarina, the King of Poland, and the Republick of Poland, for driving the Turk out of Europe. As his Imperial Majesty's Finances seem already a little straitn'd, he has order'd Two Months Pay to be deducted from all the Officers in Hungary, whose Regiments had not been this Summer encamp'd.

These Advices from Vienna, at the same Time, surprize us with an Article, as if the French were determin'd to take other Methods to prevent the Fate threaten'd the Grand Signior, besides that of composing the Quarrel by Way of Negotiation; a Report being universal there, that the Emperor having condescended to pacify Spain by a Compliance with her Demands, all Obstacles were believed to be remov'd from that Quarter: but that whilst a Courier from Madrid was every Moment expected, with Dispatches to put the last Stroke to the general Peace, the French Minister had presented a Memorial, declaring, that by the most Christian King's Construction of the Preliminary Articles, he conceiv'd, that his Imperial Majesty was to undertake the Republick of Poland, should, not only at present, but always, stile King Stanilaus, King of Poland, and never withdraw that Title. The Emperor, 'tis added, seem'd surprized; but, to use his best to remove the Difficulty, answer'd, that to warrant for the Poles, was impossible, but that he would do it for King Augustus.

Event Details

Advices from Vienna indicate that without soon accommodation, a treaty will be concluded between the Emperor, Czarina, King of Poland, and Republick of Poland to drive the Turk out of Europe. The Emperor's finances are strained, leading to deduction of two months' pay from Hungarian officers not encamped this summer. Additionally, reports suggest the French aim to prevent threats to the Grand Signior beyond negotiation; despite the Emperor pacifying Spain and awaiting Madrid dispatches for general peace, the French Minister presented a memorial requiring perpetual styling of King Stanilaus as King of Poland per preliminary articles. The Emperor, surprised, replied that warranting for the Poles is impossible but he would do so for King Augustus.
