Two Negroes Arrested At Depot Here For Obeying ICC Ruling
JACKSON, Miss., Jan. 30 (DSN) -Obeying the recent decision of the interstate Commerce Commission which caused the removal of segregation signs from the Illinois Central Railroad Depot, two Negroes were arrested here Saturday night.

The two Negroes were listed as Laverne Ephriam, a 24-year-old man from Detroit, Michigan, and 55-year-old Mrs. Susie Ramsey, of Yazoo City, Mississippi.

Following the removal of the signs from the doors of the depot, the City of Jackson placed its own signs on the sidewalks facing the entrance of the depot with the sign before the former White Waiting room reading for White Only, and the one before the former Negro waiting room reading For Colored Only, with each sign having the additional words, "by order of the Police Department."

According to reports, the police said the woman paused, read the sign, "For White Only", smiled and entered the former White waiting room. The man read the sign then entered to take a seat.

The two Negroes were arrested and charged with violating the City Jimcrow Law. Both were released after posting cash bonds of $25 each.
