METEOR EXPLODES.
Heavenly Visitor Splits, Part Falling at Dyersville, the Other at Manchester.

Dubuque, Nov. 30.-The meteor observed speeding across the sky at Dubuque late Sunday afternoon, split west of here, with a tremendous explosion, one section a foot in diameter falling in a field near Dyersville, and the other, weighing a ton, embedding itself in the earth near Manchester. Its metallic properties have not yet been tested.

As the larger piece struck nearby houses were shaken. It presented a string of fire in the cloudy heavens at Dubuque and looked as large as a bushel basket. A roar like thunder followed its flight.

Several Manchester people saw the ball of fire in the air just before the explosion, followed by a trail of smoke. Many mistook the noise for dynamite while others who noticed the rumbling became frightened, thinking it an earthquake.
