The Shakespeare Festival of Washington is drawing heavily on residents of the metropolitan area for the July production of "Twelfth Night." District thespians Susan Powers and Hugh Taschereau will portray the romantic aristocrats of Illyria-the Countess Olivia and Orsino, the Duke who demands "If music be the food of love, play on."
One of Shakespeare's most delightful comic trios, Sir Toby Belch, Sir Andrew Aguecheek and Maria, are to be played by Washington actors Tom Sulkie and Roger Bowman and Arlington actress Twila Walker. The Festival company, founded by young Washington actress-director Ellie Chamberlain, was inspired by her work with New York's famous Central Park Shakespeare Festival. The Washington Festival is specifically designed to give the area's talented theater people an opportunity to work on professional productions of top caliber plays in their hometown. "Twelfth Night" opened July 1 at the Sylvan Theater on the grounds of the Washington Monument and will run through July 15. The theater will be dark July 14. There is no charge for admission.
