Oct. 25. Thursday last a man and woman, genteelly dressed, called at Mr. Mackay's, an upholsterer, in Piccadilly, and asked whether he had not a house to let at Walworth? being answered in the affirmative, they desired to know whether he could accompany them to see it, as they had a coach waiting at the door. Mr. M. not suspecting any thing wrong, got into the coach, was driven to Walworth, where he shewed them the house; but as he was coming down stairs they both seized him, and the man holding a pistol to his breast, insisted on his giving them a check on his banker for 200l. or he would blow out his brains. Mr. M. being intimidated, signed a check and the woman was dispatched with it to the banker, while the man kept guard over Mr. M. On her return with the cash, both the man and the woman drove off, and left Mr. Mackay roared out till some persons came to his assistance. The first thing he did, after he was released, was to run to the banker, but the money had been received upwards of an hour before he arrived.
