ACCESSION
OF
STRENGTH.
The Rhode Island Republican, having gone with the National Republican party "from the rising of its sun, even unto the going down of the same," has turned from the door of that party's sepulchre and come over to the support of the Administration and Fenner's Prox—a ticket that is destined to flourish like a green bay tree, and to cast its goodly and grateful shadow over all the community.
The Republican is one of the most ancient and influential papers in the state; it was seduced from its orbit by the aberrations of John Quincy Adams: but having attended that gentleman's principles to the "undiscovered country" where human allegiance is no longer required, it feels itself released, and like a long bent branch of the tree of liberty, flies back, and gladly resumes its natural aid wonted situation. Properly conducted, it may be made a powerful newspaper, and its friends in Newport will, we trust, extend to it such a share of patronage as may sustain it in the advocacy of sound doctrines.
"There is more joy in heaven" &c.
The Newport Mercury, of Saturday last, publishes the Fenner, the Arnold, and the Anti masons prox, but, we are happy to see, places the Fenner prox above the others; and publishes also, a notice calling a meeting of the freemen to take measures to secure the election of the Administration Prox. The Mercury is another ancient and valuable paper, first printed, we believe by James Franklin, brother of Benjamin Franklin. We are happy to set it down among the advocates of sound principles.
