old men of the present House [Great laughter].
Mr. Giddings said to the gentleman from New York (Mr. Haven) that for himself, in making laws for the people of Kansas he inquired whether it was right, and not whether it suited the Senate or any particular Senator.
was his preference in the Presidential struggle for Mr. Fillmore, signifying that that gentleman Mr. Dunn of Indiana made a Buncombe speech suing. He gave notice to the North and the South that there would be no peace to this country until the Missouri Compromise is restored. He declared that until the Kansas question is settled his vote shall never aid the passage of a single appropriation bill, not while the North Star stands, and he was opposed to any adjournment until the affairs of Kansas are settled.
the amendment of Mr. Campbell by striking out Mr. Greenwood of Arkansas moved to amend "September 2," and substituting "August 18."
the adoption of the resolution fixing upon 11 o'clock, a. m., as the future hour of meeting, When the Yeas and Nays were called to-day upon Pending this the House adjourned.
took care to note the absentees, and there were sixty-eight! About the same number was absent when the Yeas and Nays were called on fixing upon final adjournment. if this negligence to the public business continues, I shall in future forward you a list of the absentees each day.
the Ex-President of the defunct Cochituate Bank again. headed by S. M. Allen of Massachusetts.
A delegation of Johnston men have been on here of Boston, to propose to somebody to take down Mr. Dayton. It seems to me that the people won't do that thing, and they alone have the power, unless Mr. Dayton chooses to decline, which he ought not to do.
