The daughter of a former West Jefferson Methodist Church pastor, now director of the Summit High School Concert Band, has earned wide acclaim for her work with the group. She is Mrs. Madine Flugge, daughter of the Rev. and Mrs. George Eley, pastor here for several years.
One of the recent notices the group received read "The 46 piece Summit High Concert Band, under the direction of Mrs. Madine Flugge, received a rating of excellent, II, in Class CI at the district contest held at Newark, Saturday, March 23. The band was one of three schools to receive the highest rating awarded to this class, the other two going to Mt. Gilead and Millersburg." The Summit band is especially proud of the I, superior, they received in sight reading, and the A plus they received in attitude, discipline and appearance. This was Summit's first trip to the District Contest.
